Drive to link lonely instruments with needy kids

It’s no surprise that in an area known to have, per capita, the finest instrumental programs in the country that the community would come together to help provide musical instruments for needy children.
By donating old instruments through the LINKS program you can make a difference in a child’s life. The tax-deductible donation will encourage needy children who otherwise would not be able to participate to get involved with their school band.

LINKS – Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids – is a 501(c)(3) non-profit program that takes in donated instruments, returns them to good playing condition and delivers them to a student whose music teacher has filled out a scholarship application and attested to the students’ aptitude for music.

The LINKS board of directors, area band directors, and school administrators are working together to encourage children to get involved in music programs despite economic hardship. The donation drive kicked off at 12:00 Noon Monday, June 9th, during a LINKS Media Day / Kickoff Party held at Playground Music Center, located at 99 NE Eglin Parkway, Fort Walton Bch. Playground Music Center, a corporate sponsor, surprised those in attendance with an initial donation to LINKS of 25 instruments. The donation drive will extend throughout the summer in anticipation of providing as many instruments to needy children throughout school districts of Northwest Florida.

Donations can be made at either of Playground Music Center’s locations at Uptown Station Shopping Center, Fort Walton Bch., or 27 Harrison Avenue, Panama City.
